CHINA’S ACCUSING THE U-S OF THREATING GLOBAL SECURITY OVER THE DEVELOPMENT OF REPORTED “SPY SATELLITES.”
THE CALLOUT COMES DAYS AFTER REUTERS REVEALED ELON MUSK’S SPACEX IS BUILDING SURVEILLANCE SATELLITES FOR THE U-S NATIONAL RECONNAISSANCE OFFICE. REUTERS SAYS THE CLASSIFIED CONTRACT IS FOR ONE-POINT-EIGHT BILLION DOLLARS.
THE PEOPLE’S LIBERATION ARMY SLAMMED THE PARTNERSHIP, SAYING IT SHOWS “SHAMELESSNESS” ON THE PART OF THE U.S. . CHINA’S MILITARY IS ACCUSING THE U-S OF A “DOUBLE STANDARD.” THE U-S WARNS CHINESE TECH COMPANIES COULD BE A THREAT TO NATIONAL SECURITY AND MAY BE WEAPONIZED BY CHINA’S GOVERNMENT TO SPY.
U-S INTELLIGENCE CONFIRMED THE SURVEILLANCE MISSION BUT IS KEEPING TIGHT-LIPPED ABOUT SPACEX’S ROLE.
HOWEVER, REUTERS REPORTS THESE SATELLITES ARE GOING TO BE BUZZING AROUND IN LOW ORBIT AND COULD POTENTIALLY HELP U-S GROUND FORCES BY KEEPING AN EYE ON ENEMY TARGETS.
THE OPERATION BETWEEN NRO AND SPACEX IS KNOWN AS “STARSHIELD.”
NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH “STARLINK,” MUSK’S INTERNET COMPANY.
SPACEX HAS MORE THAN 54-HUNDRED SATELLITES FLOATING AROUND IN SPACE.
THE SATELLITES PROVIDE INTERNET FOR CONSUMERS, COMPANIES AND GOVERNMENTS.
“STARLINK” HAS ALSO BEEN LENDING A HAND TO UKRAINE IN ITS ONGOING WAR WITH RUSSIA.
CHINA HAS RAISED SUSPICIONS OVER THE USE OF SATELLITES IN UKRAINE.
CHINESE RESEARCHERS BELIEVE THE U-S COULD EVENTUALLY USE THE SATELLITES FOR “POSSIBLE HOSTILITIES IN ASIA.”
NOT TO BE OUTDONE, CHINA IS ALSO WORKING ON ITS OWN SATELLITE NETWORKS TO LAUNCH INTO SPACE.
THE COUNTRY IS REPORTEDLY ALSO LOOKING AT DEVELOPING WEAPONS TO SHOOT DOWN SATELLITES, KNOCKING OUT A U-S ADVANTAGE IN THE SKIES.
RUSSIA ALSO HAS ITS EYES ON THE SKY. THE KREMLIN REPORTEDLY DESIRES TO CREATE A SPACE-BASED NUCLEAR WEAPON, USED TO TARGET SATELLITES.
SATELLITES PLAY A PIVOTAL ROLE IN U-S NATIONAL SECURITY, FROM COMMUNICATIONS TO TRACKING MISSILES AND MONITORING ACTIVITY ON THE GROUND.
SOME PENTAGON LEADERS REPORTEDLY WANT TO MOVE AWAY FROM LARGE SATELLITES, IN FAVOR OF CLUSTERS OF SMALLER SATELLITES CAPABLE OF STAYING ONLINE IF OTHER SYSTEMS FAIL.
MILITARY AND SPY SATELLITE-LAUNCHES ARE EXPECTED TO RAMP UP IN THE COMING YEARS.
THE PENTAGON, N-R-O AND SPACEX HAVE NOT RESPONDED TO CHINA’S CRITICISM, AT THE TIME OF THIS REPORT.
