Annie Andersen: With the debt ceiling handled for the time being… Democrats are now switching the focus back to the bipartisan infrastructure package and the spending bill.
Originally the proposed price tag for the bill was 3.5 trillion dollars, but centrists democrats in the senate said that was too much money.
West Virginia’s Joe Manchin proposed about 1.5 trillion.
President biden came back with a number around two trillion, and now it’s up to the democratic caucus to decide what will make the cut.
Nancy Pelosi: ”I’m very disappointed we’re not going with the original $3.5 trillion,… but whatever we do we will make decisions that will continue to be transformative.”>>
Annie Andersen: The chair of the Progressive Caucus has said she isn’t willing to negotiate on what is covered in this spending bill, but said her caucus would rather negotiate on how many years the bill authorizes the various programs.
The house isn’t back in session until next Tuesday.
