GOOGLE’S FORMER CEO IS WARNING ABOUT THE DANGERS OF USING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TO CREATE A ROMANTIC PARTNER.

ERIC SCHMIDT SAYS CHATBOTS CAN INCREASE LONELINESS SPECIFICALLY AMONG TEENAGE BOYS … WHO PREFER A-I POWERED “PERFECT GIRLFRIENDS.”

HE ADDED THE POTENTIAL FOR THEM TO FALL IN LOVE AND BECOME OBSESSED WITH THEIR A-I PARTNERS IS A GROWING PROBLEM … EXPLAINING WHY ON THE “PROF G SHOW” PODCAST. 

 “this is a good example of an unexpected problem of existing technology. Now imagine the AI girlfriend or boyfriend .. THE SAME COMPANY REPORTED THAT THE TERM WAS SEARCHED ONLY 12-HUNDREDS TIMES IN 2021.

IN COMPARISON – THE TERM “AI BOYFRIEND” IS SEARCHED ABOUT 180-THOUSAND TIMES A YEAR.

SCHMIDT SAYS YOUNG MEN ARE PARTICULARY VULNERABLE BECAUSE ON AVERAGE  THEY AREN’T AS EDUCATED AS YOUNG WOMEN … CITING A PEW RESEARCH STUDY THAT FOUND U-S WOMEN OUTPACED MEN IN GRADUATING COLLEGE. 

Many of the traditional paths for young men are no longer as available and so they turn to the online world for enjoyment and sustenance and because of the social media algorithms they find like-minded people who ultimately radicalize them, either in a horrific way, like terrorism, or in the kind of way you’re describing — they’re just maladjusted.”

SCHMIDT ADDED THAT REGULATORY LAWS LIKE SECTION 2-30 – WHICH PROTECTS TECH GIANTS FROM BEING HELD LIABLE FOR THE CONTENT ON THEIR PLATFORMS –  SHOULD BE REFORMED TO ALLOW FOR LIABILITY IN THE WORST POSSIBLE CASES.
