Accusations of flying unaccompanied migrant kids to US cities in secret

The Biden Administration responds to reports of unaccompanied migrant kids being flown to U.S. cities during the night, suggesting some type of secrecy. White House press secretary Jen Psaki addressed the topic during a press briefing.

“I’m not sure if it’s during the middle of the night, but I can tell you what’s going here,” said Psaki. “It’s our legal responsibility to safely care for unaccompanied children until they are swiftly unified with their parents or a legal sponsor.”

Psaki did not deny the claims made. However, the process of transporting unaccompanied minors to other states is not common. Migrants are taken by chartered buses or by plane, depending on where they are being relocated.

According to the Department of Health and Human Services, there are approximately 25 locations across the country where children are placed. The location is determined on whether the child has immediate family in the U.S., an approved sponsor, such as a close family friend, and is willing to care for them as they undergo the immigration process. The remaining children who do not meet that criteria are placed in foster care.
