A GROUP OF 17 FORMER MILITARY OFFICIALS ARE SOUNDING THE ALARM OVER EVS.
THEIR MAIN CONCERN: THE IMPLICATIONS ON U.S. NATIONAL SECURITY.
THE COALITION OF VETERANS, WHICH INCLUDED MULTIPLE ONE, TWO, AND THREE STAR OFFICERS, WROTE A LETTER ADDRESSED TO PRESIDENT BIDEN AND THE DIRECTOR OF THE EPA.
IN IT, THEY LAY OUT THEIR FEARS THAT CURRENT ADMINISTRATION POLICIES AIMED AT INCENTIVIZING EV ADOPTION are INCREASING THE NATION’S RELIANCE ON CHINA.
THE GROUP says THIS WILL RESULT IN THE U.S. BEING MORE VULNERABLE TO POLITICAL INTERFERENCE AND ECONOMIC MANIPULATIONS BY THE CHINESE COMMUNIST PARTY.
BEIJING CURRENTLY DOMINATES THE EV LANDSCAPE – BECOMing THE WORLDWIDE LEADER IN EXPORTs of BOTH ELECTRIFIED VEHICLES AND THE MATERIALS USED TO BUILD THEM.
MEANWHILE, THE WHITE HOUSE HAS COMMITTED TO A GOAL OF ENSURING HALF OF ALL CAR PURCHASES ARE ELECTRIC BY 2030.
The OBJECTIVE is too ambitious according to THE GROUP OF FORMER ARMED SERVICE MEMBERS
WRITING TO BIDEN THAT QUOTE “WE WOULD BE EXPOSING OUR ECONOMY AND NATIONAL SECURITY INTERESTS IF WE CONSCIOUSLY LINK AMERICA’S ECONOMIC AND TRANSPORTATION STABILITY TO THE ENTERPRISE OF A COUNTRY YOU YOURSELF DESCRIBED AS AN ECONOMIC TICKING TIME BOMB.”
WHILE THE VETERANS BELIEVE EVS WILL PLAY A SIGNIFICANT ROLE IN U.S. TRANSPORTATION DOWN THE ROAD, THEY CAUTIONED MOVING AHEAD TOO QUICKLY WITH THE TRANSITION WILL COME WITH MAJOR RISKS.
ULTIMATELY THE GROUP URGEs THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION TO NOT RUSH UNTIL THE NECESSARY EV INFRASTRUCTURE IS IN PLACE.
