“This is a state’s version of being able to crack down on illegal immigration,” Gregory said. “And it’s the state’s way to ensure they’re effectively cooperating with [Immigrant and Customs Enforcement].”

In Oklahoma, Gov. Kevin Stitt has vowed to implement “Operation Guardian.”

According to a news release from the governor’s office, the operation is “a comprehensive plan to deport those who have committed crimes in Oklahoma while in the country illegally.”

Stitt tapped Public Safety Commissioner Tim Tipton to consult with state, county and local law enforcement to help create the plan. Officials are looking to implement the plan quickly after Trump’s inauguration.

Stitt’s office says the Department of Corrections currently houses 526 immigrants in Oklahoma jails, costing taxpayers $36,000 a day.

Stitt, alongside governors in 24 other states, are voicing support for Trump’s immigration plans. They wrote a letter stating in part: “Republican governors remain fully committed to supporting the Trump administration’s efforts to deport dangerous criminals, gang members, and terrorists who are in this country illegally. We understand the direct threat these criminal illegal immigrants pose to public safety and our national security, and we will do everything in our power to assist in removing them from our communities.”

Meanwhile, Democratic U.S. senators are urging President Joe Biden to shore up more protections for immigrants before he leaves office.

In a letter to Biden on Monday, Dec. 9, the senators wrote: “We write to express our deep concern about the threat the incoming administration poses to immigrants in our communities,” adding, “We urge you to act decisively between now and the inauguration of the president-elect to complete the important work of the past four years and protect immigrant families.”

Trump and his Border Czar Tom Homan have promised to carry out mass deportations of immigrants while prioritizing those who have committed crimes.

Last week, Straight Arrow News reported on records obtained by the New York Post that show there are nearly 60,000 undocumented immigrants with criminal records in New York City alone.
