The lawsuit obtained by Deadline accuses Bob of misappropriating funds and shifting financial responsibility onto Harvey. He argues that his brother and business partners left him to cover debts they created.
The rise and fall of The Weinstein Company
Harvey and Bob founded The Weinstein Company in 2005 after leaving Miramax Films. The studio became a Hollywood powerhouse, producing Oscar-winning films like “Django Unchained” and “The Imitation Game”.
In 2017, Harvey faced multiple sexual misconduct allegations, igniting the #MeToo movement. He was forced out of the company, and The Weinstein Company filed for bankruptcy in 2018.
A complicated brotherhood
Harvey and Bob’s relationship has been rocky for years. Though they built a successful company together, Bob has said Harvey became increasingly volatile.
In a 2017 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bob revealed that he had barely spoken to his brother in five years.
“I could not take his cheating, his lying, and also his attitude toward everyone,” Bob said.
Bob later distanced himself from Harvey, expressing sympathy for the victims and claiming he never knew the extent of his brother’s actions.
Bob Weinstein’s own accusations
In 2017, Bob Weinstein faced his own sexual harassment claims. A television producer accused him of making unwanted romantic advances over a three-month period in 2016.
An aspiring actress also claimed Bob tried to lure her into an “infamous hotel meeting” when she was still a minor. No legal action or settlements followed the allegations.

Harvey Weinstein’s retrial approaches
Harvey Weinstein remains jailed at Rikers Island. His retrial, which could reinstate his 23-year sentence, begins April 15.
[KENNEDY FELTON]
While Harvey Weinstein remains in Rikers Island awaiting a retrial for his overturned 2020 rape conviction, he’s now taking on a new legal fight—this time, against his own brother.
Harvey is suing his brother, Bob Weinstein, along with other business executives, accusing them of fraud related to a $45 million loan he personally guaranteed in 2016 from AI International Holdings.
The Weinstein brothers left Miramax Films to found ‘The Weinstein Company’ in 2005, where they produced multiple Oscar-winning movies like ‘Django Unchained’ and ‘The Imitation Game.’
But in 2017, Harvey’s sexual misconduct scandal exploded, igniting the #MeToo movement. He was forced out of his own company, which eventually filed for bankruptcy in 2018.
Now, in Monday’s lawsuit, Harvey claims he was left to repay the loan alone, accusing Bob and other executives of misusing funds for personal expenses and unrelated business deals.
Their brotherly bond has long been fractured. Though they saw massive success together, Bob says Harvey became more volatile over the years. In a 2017 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bob, at times emotional, revealed he had barely spoken to his brother in five years.
“I could not take his cheating, his lying, and also his attitude toward everyone,” Bob said.
Bob also distanced himself from Harvey’s scandal, expressing sympathy for the victims and claiming he had no knowledge of his brother’s predatory behavior.
But in 2017, Bob himself faced sexual harassment accusations. A TV producer alleged Bob made repeated unwanted advances over three months in 2016. An aspiring actress claimed Bob allegedly tried to lure her into an “infamous hotel meeting” when she was still a minor. No public legal action or settlements were reported from these claims.
As of now, Harvey remains jailed in Rikers Island, with retrial set to begin on his 23-year sentence on April 15th.
