An emotional reaction from actor James Woods…
…detailing his harrowing experience of evacuating as flames engulfed his home. In the chaos, he also helped rescue an elderly neighbor with dementia.
As multiple fires tear through Southern California, Woods and other Hollywood stars are among the thousands devastated by the loss of their homes and businesses.
Woods urges people to evacuate immediately when warned, stressing the importance of staying out of the firefighters’ way.
Actor Steve Guttenberg is jumping in to help this effort after fleeing his home during evacuations. Videos are circulating on social media showing endless cars parked on streets as people were urged to get out of their cars and walk to safety.
Meanwhile, media personality Paris Hilton shares her heartbreak, posting on social media that she watched her Malibu home burn to the ground on live TV.
She writes, “This home was where we built so many precious memories. It’s where Phoenix – her son – took his first steps and where we dreamed of building a lifetime of memories with London – her daughter.”
Hilton says her media impact team is currently working to find the best ways to support the community.
Jamie Lee Curtis was a guest on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” Wednesday and took some time to stress the importance of emergency preparedness as an American Red Cross Ambassador. Her family has also pledged 1 million dollars to support relief efforts.
And actor Billy Crystal and his wife also lost their longtime home to the fires. In a statement to ABC, Crystal says, “Janice and I lived in our home since 1979. We raised our children and grandchildren here. Every inch of our house was filled with love.”
Actress Heidi Montag joins that list, along with singer Jhene Aiko and actor Cameron Mathison, chef Sandra Lee, and former talk show host Ricki Lake.
The devastation is widespread but there are ways to help. Organizations like the Red Cross and local relief funds are accepting donations to aid victims of the fires. Planet Fitness is offering a free place to shower and recharge to people impacted, while Airbnb is offering temporary housing.
