SIMONE DEL ROSARIO: YOU KNOW THE NAMES. BUT NOW THE ICONIC BREAKFAST BRAND WILL GO BY A NEW ONE.
KELLOGG’S ANNOUNCED TUESDAY IT’S SPLITTING INTO THREE INDEPENDENT PUBLIC COMPANIES:
ONE FOR SNACKING. ONE FOR CEREAL. AND ONE FOR ITS PLANT-BASED PRODUCTS.
THE CEO – SAYING “THESE BUSINESSES ALL HAVE SIGNIFICANT STANDALONE POTENTIAL, AND AN ENHANCED FOCUS WILL ENABLE THEM TO BETTER DIRECT THEIR RESOURCES TOWARD THEIR DISTINCT STRATEGIC PRIORITIES.”
WHILE CEREAL’S PROBABLY THE FIRST THING YOU THINK OF WHEN KELLOGG COMES TO MIND, THAT DIVISION MAKES UP JUST 17% OF NET SALES.
PLANT BASED – IS A DROP IN THE BUCKET, WHILE SNACKING IS THE REAL BEHEMOTH BEHIND THE BRAND.
KELLOGG SAYS THE TAX-FREE SPINOFF WILL COMPLETE IN 2023. THEY DON’T YET HAVE NAMES FOR THE TRIO, BUT INVESTORS SURE LIKED THE NEWS. AND HQS WILL STAY THE SAME.
IN THE PAST YEAR – WE’VE ALSO SEEN RENOWNED BRANDS GENERAL ELECTRIC AND JOHNSON AND JOHNSON ANNOUNCE SPLITS.
AS FOR FOOD – IT’S BEEN 10 YEARS SINCE KRAFT MADE A SIMILAR MOVE.
IN NEW YORK FOR JUST BUSINESS I’M SIMONE DEL ROSARIO.
