The Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee says Supreme Court Nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson is on track to be confirmed in the coming days.
Republican Senators Lisa Murkowski, Mitt Romney and Susan Collins say they’ll support her confirmation. A yes from those three, in addition to all 50 Democrats, will give her all the votes she needs.
Senator Murkowski stated: “My support rests on Judge Jackson’s qualifications, which no one questions…” “It also rests on my rejection of the corrosive politicization of the review process for Supreme Court nominees, which, on both sides of the aisle, is growing worse and more detached from reality by the year. While I have not and will not agree with all of Judge Jackson’s decisions and opinions, her approach to cases is carefully considered and is generally well-reasoned.”
But most Senate Republicans continue to criticize Judge Jackson saying she has a history of giving criminals lenient sentences.
Cotton says: “Judge Jackson will coddle criminals and terrorists, and she will twist or ignore the law to reach the result that she wants.”
Democrats contend Judge Jackson’s experience on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, as a public defender, and Supreme Court clerk make her highly qualified.
Durbin says: “Judge Jackson is an outstanding nominee. She has earned support across the political and ideological spectrum. And her qualifications are second to none.”
The final confirmation vote is expected this week. Straight From D.C. I’m Ray Bogan.
