“A Quiet Place Part II” sets pandemic-era box office record

Full story

John Krasinski’s thriller sequel “A Quiet Place Part II” raked in a pandemic-era box office record $48.4 million over Memorial Day weekend.

It’s one of few larger-budget movies to open exclusively in theaters during the pandemic.

Many studios have done hybrid releases, debuting movies at theaters and at home at the same time.

That’s what Disney did over the weekend with its live-action Cruella De Vil prequel, “Cruella”.

The movie grossed $21.3 million at the box office, and was made available to Disney+ subscribers for $30.

“A Quiet Place Part II” will be available for stream on Paramount+ after 45 days in theaters.
