As part of the NFL Honors Awards show in New Orleans Thursday night the league announced the 2025 members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class. Two of the newly elected have Chiefs and Eagles fans smiling even before Sunday’s game kicks off.
Cornerback Eric Allen played 14 seasons in the league, half of those for the Eagles where he went to 6 pro bowls. He finished his career with 54 interceptions and nine defensive touchdowns in 217 games played. He also starred in New Orleans and Oakland.
One of the greatest Chargers of all time and arguably one of the greatest at his position, tight end Antonio Gates played two decades for the Bolts and was one of the most reliable targets in the league. He went to 8 straight pro bowls from 2004-2011 catching at least 7 touchdowns in each season. He finished 955 catches over 11,000 yards and 116 TDs in his career.
Another Allen is the final modern-day player to be elected to the Hall, Jared Allen played 12 seasons, starting his career in Kansas City, then to Minnesota, Chicago and Carolina Allen’s calf-roping celebration took place after nearly every one of his 136 sacks good for 12th all time. In 2011, he finished with 22 sacks third in NFL history in a single season.
Those three along with former Packers wide receiver Sterling Sharpe voted in from the seniors category will be enshrined in the Hall of Fame, August 2nd in Canton, Ohio
It’s the smallest class since 2005 and some notables that didn’t make it this time around include Eli Manning, Adam Vinatieri, Tory Holt and coach Mike Holmgren.
