Since 2019, Moore’s offensive schemes have averaged a top-five ranking in the league. He’ll be charged with turning around a 5-12 Saints team that hasn’t made the playoffs in four years.
Moore was a star quarterback at Boise State from 2007-2011, where he finished with an NCAA-best 50-3 record. He spent 6 seasons as an NFL backup before turning to coaching.
On Thursday, Feb. 6, in the run-up to the 2025 Super Bowl, he spoke about his coaching background.
“I grew up around the game. My dad was the high school coach for our team the Prosser Mustangs, had a little Friday night lights feel to it, small town out in Washington, so those were my idols growing up,” Moore said. “That’s what I wanted to be. Every day getting done with school I would go down to the football field and I was the ball boy and I just hung around those guys. That’s really what my childhood was.”
That foundation eventually led him to the Super Bowl-champion Eagles, where his offense was top eight in both points scored and total yards this past season. With Moore calling the plays, Saquon Barkley became the ninth running back in NFL history to rush for over 2,000 yards.
Moore becomes the youngest head coach in the NFL and replaces Dennis Allen, who was fired in the middle of his third season. Seven of the five coaches hired during this year’s NFL cycle are first-time head coaches.
