Fresh off calling the Super Bowl for the first time as a game analyst for Fox, NFL Legend Tom Brady is back to buying big ticket items. This time however, he doesn’t need approval from the NFL owners as he did for his stake in the Las Vegas Raiders.
This time Tom Brady is buying a 50% stake in CardVault, a sports card and memorabilia retailer. And smart business, CardVault is changing its name to “CardVault by Tom Brady”. In a statement released by the company the 7-time Super Bowl champ said,
“Sports collectibles and cards have been part of my DNA since childhood, and CardVault has set the gold standard for what a modern fan experience should be.”
In August of last year, Brady was spotted at a card show in New York City buying some collectibles from a vendor, who naturally was a huge fan.
“These are insane. You’ve got a great collection here,” Brady said. “Let me tell you. I was a high school teacher for 13 years. I left to do this full time. And having your card was a huge reason why that happened. I bought my dream house by selling and wheeling and dealing your cards,” the collector said to Brady.
Brady shook his hand and said, “That’s awesome, man. I love hearing that, I appreciate it.”
Card collecting has experienced a resurgence since the COVID-19 pandemic with prices for some rare collectibles soaring into the millions of dollars.
CardVault, founded in 2020, has locations in Boston’s TD Garden, Gillette Stadium in Foxboro where Brady played for 20 years and Foxwoods Casino. The retailer is planning to expand outside the New England area starting in spring of 2025.
Wednesday, the company’s statement also outlined Brady’s vision for the business.
“This isn’t just about buying and selling cards; it’s about curating history, building community, turning fans into collectors, and giving them access to own great moments in sports.” Brady said.
And as we’ve seen over the last two decades plus, “great moments in sports” is certainly one thing Tom Terrific knows a whole lot about.
