Another weekend, another email from the Trump administration asking federal workers to detail their professional accomplishments in the last week. It’s part of the Trump administration’s effort to downsize the federal workforce.

The first email came last Saturday night, Feb. 22, from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). Trump’s advisor, Elon Musk, posted on X that the email requested federal workers to outline “what they got done last week,” adding, “Failure to respond will be taken as a resignation.”

The email asked employees to list five completed tasks. White House officials said less than half of federal workers responded.

Some federal agencies told their employees not to comply, saying they had no obligation to report their activities outside of the department chain of command.

However, the White House said Tuesday, Feb. 25, that more than 1 million federal employees responded to the first email request.

Meanwhile, the second email was supposed to go out Saturday, March 1, but some federal workers received it Friday night, according to the Associated Press.

A person familiar with the matter who spoke to the AP said the second email was “to come from individual agencies that have direct oversight of career officials.” Some employees who received the second email said it came from the OPM instead of their agency.

The second email asked federal workers again to list five bullet points describing their accomplishments and to respond back to the email, CCing their manager.

The email stated this cycle would continue, and employees have until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, March 3, to respond.
