Trump joins Braves fans in controversial ‘Tomahawk chop’ at World Series

Former President Donald Trump and first lady Melania joined Braves fans in the controversial ‘Tomahawk chop’ while attending game four of the 2021 World Series in Atlanta. Trump’s participation reignited the debate over whether the franchise should continue the home game tradition.

While sports fans and politicos debate this issue, Native Americans disagree over whether or not the tradition is offensive. Tribes near Atlanta have a longstanding relationship with the MLB franchise, while tribes outside the city and state view it as offensive.

A DAY AFTER I PUBLISHED A STORY ABOUT THE BRAVES’ “TOMAHAWK” CHOP, WHICH SOME NATIVE AMERICANS VIEW AS OFFENSIVE.

THIS VIDEO OF FORMER PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP AND FIRST LADY MELANIA SURFACED ON TWITTER.

SO, TO CREATE DIALOGUE, I SHARED THE VIDEO AND POINTED PEOPLE BACK TO MY STORY. I ALSO CREATED A POLL ON TWITTER.

I SIMPLY ASKED THIS QUESTION: SHOULD THE BRAVES CONTINUE TO DO THE “TOMAHAWK CHOP” OR NOT?

NEARLY 70-PERCENT OF PEOPLE SAY THEY SHOULD CONTINUE TO DO IT, WHILE JUST OVER THIRTY PERCENT SAY THEY SHOULD STOP.

ROUGHLY 50 PEOPLE RESPONDED TO THE POLL. ALSO, I HAD ONE PERSON TWEET ME AND ASK, WHY AM I POINTING OUT THE FORMER PRESIDENT WHEN THEY WERE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE IN THE STANDS DOING THE SAME THING.

THEY ALSO MENTIONED, “WE NEED TO STOP TRYING TO TEAR APART HISTORY AND TRADITIONS. PRETTY SOON PEOPLE WILL HAVE NOTHING TO HOLD ONTO.”

IN RESPONSE TO HER POINT, I SAID, “IF IT WERE ANY FORMER PRESIDENT, I WOULD HAVE DONE THE SAME THING. ALSO, I DON’T NECESSARILY HAVE A DOG IN THIS FIGHT.”
