“Earlier today I received an important letter from President Zelenskyy of Ukraine,” Trump said. “The letter reads: ‘Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring lasting peace closer.'”

Ukraine ready for peace talks with Russia: Zelenskyy

Earlier in the day, Zelenskyy posted on X that Ukraine was ready to sign the deal and enter peace talks with Russia. He also called last week’s contentious Oval Office meeting with Trump and Vice President JD Vance that played out on national TV “regrettable.”

Since that tense exchange, Trump has put the minerals deal on hold. On Monday, the Trump administration paused all military aid to Ukraine.

Trump added that his administration has also communicated with Russia to reach a deal to end the war.

“Simultaneously we’ve had serious discussions with Russia. Then I’ve received strong signals that they are ready for peace. Wouldn’t that be beautiful?” Trump said.

“It’s time to stop this madness. It’s time to halt the killing. It’s time to end the senseless war. If you want to end wars, you have to talk to both sides.”
