The White House has pushed for the removal of diversity and environmental justice workers since Trump took office. At the same time, Trump is working toward a broader goal of reducing the size of the federal government.

EPA aligning with Trump executive order

Molly Vaseliou, an EPA spokesperson, said they are implementing Trump’s order to improve efficiency for all Americans.

“Our goal is to be open and transparent. As we work to improve efficiencies across the government, it is essential that all staff understand the law and how policy decisions may impact them. Ultimately, the goal is to create a more effective and efficient federal government that serves all Americans.”

While most employees will retain their salary and benefits while on leave, over a thousand others could face immediate termination.

A union representing EPA workers revealed a warning email from the Trump administration stating that recent hires, with less than a year on the job, may be subject to immediate dismissal.

In a separate move, Trump also initiated a shutdown of the U.S. Agency for International Development this week, putting nearly 10,000 employees on paid leave.

Trump’s administration is also weighing his presidential power to break up the Department of Education.
