Ukraine pleads for Western aid as Russian negotiations unsuccessful

Full story

Ahead of a third round of talks between Russia and Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy pleaded to the West for assistance. The request came after video surfaced appearing to show families of Ukrainians killed in the street around Kyiv while attempting to evacuate.

We are people and it is your humanitarian duty to protect us, protect people,” Zelenskyy said in the video.

“He’s bombarding civilians. He’s attacking tower blocks with missiles,” said United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson. “It is absolutely unconscionable that democracy in Ukraine should be stamped out in this way.”

Congress has proposed more sanctions for Russia, including a ban on Russian oil imports. Members will also discuss humanitarian aid for Ukraine in an omnibus bill, with a vote on that expected before March 11.
