Bishop who called on Trump to show mercy: ‘I have had people wish me dead’

Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington faced backlash from conservative circles and has reportedly received death threats after asking President Donald Trump to show mercy while delivering a prayer during inauguration events this week. Specifically, Budde asked Trump to extend mercy to migrants and members of the LGBTQ+ community.
Trump criticized Budde on Truth Social, calling her a “Radical Left hard line Trump hater” and demanded an apology. Budde reported receiving death threats after her remarks but refused to apologize, stating, “I don’t feel there’s a need to apologize.”
