Canada’s premiers to meet to talk tariffs, trade and health care

Canada’s 13 premiers will meet in Toronto on Monday, Dec. 16, to discuss tariffs, trade and health care. The impact of possible tariffs on interprovincial trade is expected to be a key topic during the meeting, especially as tariff threats from U.S. President-elect Donald Trump loom.

Premiers are meeting to strategize in person, expected to raise concerns about rising health care costs and emphasize cooperation.

They are also expected to highlight the importance of supporting local economies through trade.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford, who is hosting Monday’s meeting, is expected to suggest retaliatory tariffs against the U.S. as well as threatening to shut off electricity supply to several U.S. states, CTV News reported.
