Criminal records of Jan. 6 rioters pardoned by Trump include rape, domestic violence

President Donald Trump pardoned many Jan. 6 rioters shortly after his second inauguration, including individuals with serious criminal records such as rape and domestic violence, according to reporting from NPR. Nearly six in 10 Americans oppose pardoning rioters convicted of crimes, highlighting public discontent.
Critics argue that the pardons symbolize a lack of accountability and embolden radical militias. Several pardoned individuals face ongoing criminal cases unrelated to the Capitol riot, raising concerns about the implications of these pardons. According to NPR, dozens of those who were pardoned have prior convictions or pending charges for rape, sexual abuse of a minor, domestic violence, manslaughter, production of child sexual abuse material and drug trafficking.
