‘It isn’t a future thing’ Climate change is taking a toll on Canada’s lighthouses

Climate change is currently affecting Canada’s lighthouses, particularly in Annandale, where erosion has undermined the soil near the historic lighthouse. The municipality spent about $100,000 in November to move the lighthouse inland to a safer location.
A study from the University of Prince Edward Island confirmed that Fiona’s storm surge disabled tide gauges on the island’s northwest shore. The Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation found that 17 of Prince Edward Island’s 61 lighthouses are threatened by coastal erosion.
