Senator opens inquiry into US Center for SafeSport’s hiring of investigator charged with sex crimes

Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, is investigating how Jason Krasley, a former police officer with sex-crime allegations, was hired by the U.S. Center for SafeSport. Grassley is also investigating whether the center was aware of his newer accusations while he worked there last year.

Grassley sent a letter to Ju’Riese Colon, CEO of SafeSport, requesting answers to 13 questions about how the center overlooked red flags regarding Krasley, who has multiple recent arrests for serious crimes.

Krasley was fired in November 2024 after initial arrests were reported, and Grassley expressed concerns about the need for impartial investigators without accusations of misconduct.

SafeSport stated they would respond to Grassley’s inquiry and emphasized their background check program, while Colon described the situation as “devastating news” for the organization and its mission to protect athletes.
