Trump asks New York appeals court to throw out $454 million civil judgment

Lawyers for former President Donald Trump have requested a New York appeals court to dismiss a $454 million judgment from his civil fraud trial. Documents show Trump’s legal team claimed the penalty is unconstitutional and outdated.

This request follows a February ruling by Judge Arthur Engoron, which found Trump and his sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, liable for fraud. The ruling said the Trumps falsified Trump Organization business records for banks and insurance providers. The Appellate Division may uphold, modify or overturn the ruling. The New York attorney general’s office expected to respond next month.
