Derek Mead
Chief Content OfficerDerek Mead is the chief content officer for Straight Arrow News. In this capacity, Derek oversees SAN’s newsroom, including editorial, video production, and digital strategy.
Derek is a career journalist who’s worked in print, digital, broadcast, and documentary. He was previously editor-in-chief of Vice, leading the publication’s North American newsrooms, as well editor-in-chief of Motherboard. Derek has a wealth of international news experience, including leading the newsroom side of Vice’s international expansion into 35 countries. Following his time at Vice, Derek founded the Emmy-nominated documentary production company Earthbound Pictures.
A graduate of UC Santa Barbara, Derek lives in Northern California with his wife and son. He’s an avid outdoor enthusiast and an average-but-fearless home chef.
