Attorney General Garland says he personally approved the decision to seek a search warrant of former President Trump’s Mar-A-Lago home. He also announced the Justice Department is asking a federal court in Florida to unseal the search warrant and list of items taken during the raid. Garland confirmed the search warrant was approved by federal courts upon the required finding of probable cause and that a copy of the search warrant was given to Trump’s attorney.
Garland says the Justice Department is going public with this because Trump disclosed that a warrant was executed but not what was taken, and because of substantial public interest.
Attorney General Garland also condemned threats and attacks against law enforcement, FBI agents and prosecutors.
MERRICK GARLAND | U.S. ATTORNEY GENERAL says: I will not stand by silently when their integrity is unfairly attacked. The men and women of the FBI and Justice Department are dedicated and patriotic public servants.
Garland says more information will be made available in the appropriate way and at the appropriate time, but would not say anything else about the basis of the search.
