The NBA trade deadline –– 3 p.m. EST on Thursday, Feb. 6 –– is fast approaching, and fans worldwide wonder what deals might follow Luka Doncic’s mega-trade to the Los Angeles Lakers. The rumor mill is churning and speculation abounds, but that’s just part of the fun for NBA fans.

Doncic’s swap for the Dallas Mavericks’ Anthony Davis even shocked LeBron James, who said Tuesday night, Feb. 4, that he thought he’d seen it all in his 22 years in the league.

“First time I heard the news, I thought it was for sure fake. I thought it was a hoax, people messing around, whatever,” James said. “But then when [Anthony Davis] called me, AD Facetimed me, talked to him for quite a while –– even when I got off the phone with him it still didn’t seem real.”

The dominoes began to fall across the league the following day. DeAaron Fox of the Sacramento Kings and Zach LaVine of the Chicago Bulls were dealt for one another in a three-team deal that included San Antonio. Then, on Wednesday morning, Feb.5, the Milwaukee Bucks traded Khris Middleton –– one of their longtime cornerstone stars –– to the Washington Wizards for forward Kyle Kuzma.

With less than 24 hours before the deadline, rumors continue to swirl. The Golden State Warriors are said to be “100%” talking to teams about trading future Hall of Famer Draymond Green. They are also said to be interested in bringing back Green’s former teammate, Kevin Durant. Durant helped the Warriors win back-to-back championships and could be the spark that gets Steph Curry’s team back into contention, with or without Green.

The issue with that rumor is that Durant said Wednesday, Feb. 5, that he does not want to go back to Golden State—he’d prefer to remain in Phoenix. The Suns might be happier as well if they could somehow work out a deal to acquire disgruntled superstar Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat. Butler remains suspended for “conduct detrimental to the team,” and the two sides have been working on a potential trade for weeks without success.

One thing is certain: After what’s already happened and what could go down before the deadline, the league has not had this kind of shake-up in years.

The NBA is still reeling from the Luka to LA Lakers mega-deal but with the trade deadline fast approaching there are bound to be some more big moves coming. In fact, another deal went down Wednesday.

At this point, however it doesn’t appear we’ll get anything near as big as the Doncic for Anthony Davis swap which shocked even LeBron James who said Tuesday night he thought he’d seen it all in his 22 years in the league.

“First time I heard the news I thought it was for sure fake, I thought it was a hoax, people messing around whatever, but then when AD called me, AD Facetimed me, talked to him for quite a while. Even when I got off the phone with him it still didn’t seem real.”

The dominoes started falling the next day. DeAaron Fox and Zach LaVine were dealt for one another in a three team deal and Wednesday morning the Milwaukee Bucks traded Khris Middleton, one of their longtime cornerstone stars to the Washington Wizards for forward Kyle Kuzma.

What’s next is anyone’s guess but the Golden State Warriors are said to be “100%” talking to teams about trading future Hall of Famer Draymond Green. They are also said to be interested in bringing back superstar Kevin Durant.
KD is in Phoenix for now but helped the Warriors win back to back championships and could be the spark that gets Steph Curry’s team back into contention, with or without Green.

That assumes, of course, that Phoenix wants to trade Durant. The Suns might be happier if they could somehow work out a deal to acquire disgruntled superstar Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat. Butler remains suspended for “conduct detrimental to the team” and the two sides have been trying to make a deal work for weeks now.

Lots of moving parts and the rumor-mill is churning which is part of the fun for NBA fans. One thing is for sure, after what’s already happened and what could go down before Thursday afternoon the league has not had this kind of shake-up in years.
