Annie Andersen: THERE’S NO TWO- WAYS ABOUT IT- PRESIDENT BIDEN’S APPROVAL RATING IS FALLING… AND FALLING FAST.
A NEW GALLUP POLL HAS PRESIDENT BIDEN’S APPROVAL RATING AT 43%.. THAT’S AN ALL-TIME LOW FOR HIM.
IT’S DOWN 6 POINTS FROM august BUT DOWN13 POINTS FROM june
IF THAT WASN’T BAD ENOUGH… MORE THAN HALF OF ALL PEOPLE POLLED, 53 PERCENT SAY THEY DISAPPROVE OF HIS PERFORMANCE.
IT’S NOT JUST ONE POLL…
THE WEBSITE 538 LOOKS AT ALL POLLS AND AVERAGES THEM.
BY THEIR CALCULATIONS, BIDEN’S OVERALL APPROVAL RATING IS DOWN TO 46.3%.
SO CAN PRESIDENT BIDEN RECOVER?
LETS GET THIS STRAIGHT.
SOME REPUBLICANS SAY THIS IS INDICATIVE OF THE DECISIONS BIDEN HAS MADE AS PRESIDENT.
Sen. John Barrasso: <<”YOU’RE SEEING IN LIVING COLOR THE INCOMPETENCY OF THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION. YOU’RE SEEING IT AT THE BORDER, YOU’RE SEEING IT AT AFGHANISTAN. YOU’RE SEEING CRIME 48.9%IN THE CITY. SO, THIS PRESIDENT , AS YOU JUST REPORTED WITH THE POLL NUMBERS, IS IN FREEFALL.”
Annie Andersen: WHITE HOUSE PRESS SECRETARY JEN PSAKI SAYS THEY ARE FOCUSING ON THE LONG TERM PICTURE, RATHER THAN JUST THIS EXACT MOMENT.
JEN PSAKI, WHITE HOUSE PRESS SECRETARY
Jen Psaki: <<”I THINK THE COUNTRY IS GOING THROUGH A LOT RIGHT NOW. AND PEOPLE ARE STILL UNDER THE THREAT OF COVID; THAT IS CONCERNING TO A LOT OF PEOPLE. WE SEE THAT IN POLLS AS WELL. EVEN AS THEY APPROVE OF THE PRESIDENT’S HANDLING OF COVID, THAT’S STILL SOMETHING IMPACTING PEOPLE PEOPLE’S LIVES. THERE’S A GREAT DEAL OF ANXIETY ABOUT THAT. WE UNDERSTAND THAT. BUT OUR OBJECTIVE IS TO KEEP PUSHING HIS AGENDA FORWARD AND KEEP MAKING THEIR LIVES BETTER, AND, YOU KNOW, LOOK AT THAT OVER THE LONG TERM.”>>
Annie Andersen: SO, ARE BIDEN’S NUMBERS GOOD OR BAD? LET’S LOOK AT APPROVAL RATINGS FROM PAST PRESIDENTS – AND SEE IF THEY WERE ABLE TO BOUNCE BACK.
PRESIDENT BIDEN HAS HAD 247 DAYS IN OFFICE…
AT THAT SAME TIME, PRESIDENT TRUMP’S APPROVAL RATING SAT AT 39.6 PERCENT ACCORDING TO 538 ANALYSIS.
PRESIDENT OBAMA’S WAS 52.7 PERCENT.
PRESIDENT GEORGE W BUSH’S WAS MUCH HIGHER- AT 85.9 PERCENT. IT WAS IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE 9/11 ATTACKS.
AND PRESIDENT CLINTON’S 48.9 PERCENT.
WHEN IT COMES TO THEIR FINAL APPROVAL NUMBERS- TRUMP ENDED LOWER THAN ANY OTHER TIME IN HIS PRESIDENCY.
THERE WERE MULTIPLE FACTORS ACCORDING TO GALLUP,
TRUMP’S REFUSAL TO CONCEDE THE ELECTION,
HIS ATTEMPTS TO OVERTURN THE RESULTS,
THE JAN. 6 RIOTS,
A SURGE IN COVID,
AND HIS SECOND IMPEACHMENT CONTRIBUTED TO HIS LOW NUMBER.
GEORG W. BUSH FINISHED ON A LOWER NOTE TOO.
THE HOUSING CRISIS AND THE RECESSION SPIKED DURING THE FINAL YEAR OF HIS SECOND TERM.
AND THERE WERE PRESIDENTS WHO ENDED ON A HIGH NOTE.
OBAMA, CLINTON AND REAGAN ALL ENDED THEIR PRESIDENCIES WITH HIGHER NUMBERS.
SO BIDEN HAS SOME TIME TO REBOUND.
BUT FOR NOW, HISTORY SHOWS LOW NUMBERS MEAN BIDEN MAY NOT HAVE THE
POLITICAL LEVERAGE NEEDED TO CONVINCE THE TWO SIDES OF HIS PARTY TO SET ASIDE THEIR DIFFERENCES
AND PASS HIS FIRST TERM PRIORITIES.
IT’S SOMETHING EVEN HOLLYWOOD KNOWS…
Michael Douglas: <<”IF THEY WANT TO PULL THEIR SUPPORT, FINE. AT 63 PERCENT JOB APPROVAL RATING. I DON’T NEED THEIR HELP GETTING A BILL PASSED.”>>
Annie Andersen: LOW APPROVAL RATINGS CAN ALSO IMPACT THE MIDTERMS.
DURING OBAMA’S FIRST TERM… HE HAD LOW APPROVAL RATINGS GOING INTO THE MIDTERMS
AND REPUBLICANS FLIPPED THE HOUSE.
DO YOU THINK PRESIDENT BIDEN WILL BE ABLE TO RECOVER FROM HIS POLL NUMBERS?
LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS BELOW.
