The NBA trade deadline has passed and it’s safe to say none of the moves made Thursday surprised us more than the deals that came in the days before.
Luka to the Lakers, De’Arron Fox to the Spurs, Khris Middleton to the Wizards and late Wednesday night, Jimmy Butler to the Warriors.
Golden State players learned about that blockbuster at halftime of their loss to Utah. Butler, a 6-time All-Star, comes to the Warriors from the Miami Heat in exchange for Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Anderson, PJ Tucker from Utah and a first round pick.
After the loss Thursday night, Steph Curry admitted he and his teammates were a bit shaken by the deal but they’re excited to play with Jimmy.
“been to two finals, he’s a winner. I understand there’s a lot of drama down there and who really knows what the story is. We expect to have a motivated, committed Jimmy that’s ready to impact our team for the better.”
But there is the issue of how Butler will fit with a player many regard as the greatest shooter of all time. The Warriors hope to figure it out in time to make a playoff run.
“It’ll look different than what we’re used to, I mean, he can play a little motion (offense) but he’s a shot creator, a finisher, someone you have to take into account no matter where he is on the floor.”
The Warriors hope they improved, here are a few other moves that were made on deadline day:
The LA Lakers add center Mark Williams from the Charlotte Hornets
The Toronto Raptors got wing Brandon Ingram from the New Orleans Pelicans
Cleveland got De’Andre Hunter from the Atlanta Hawks
The Clippers got Bogdan Bogdanovic also from the Hawks
And the Wizards got Marcus Smart and a first-round pick from the Memphis Grizzlies.
Those are just a few of at least a dozen moves made Thursday. The NBA suddenly looks very different than it did just a few days ago. Now we get to see how it all plays out for the next five months.
