Daniel Craig wishes Bond producers well following Amazon’s franchise take over

Daniel Craig wished longtime James Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli the best in their future ventures. On Thursday, Feb. 20, Amazon MGM, Wilson and Broccoli formed a joint venture to house the James Bond intellectual property rights.

“My respect, admiration, and love for Barbara and Michael remain constant and undiminished,” Craig told Variety. “I wish Michael a long, relaxing (and well-deserved) retirement, and whatever ventures Barbara goes on to do, I know they will be spectacular, and I hope I can be part of them.”

Wilson and Broccoli’s future plans

Following the announcement, Wilson, 87, said he would be retiring. “With my 007 career spanning nearly 60 incredible years, I am stepping back from producing the James Bond films to focus on art and charitable projects,” he said.

Broccoli, 64, said she plans to continue working in the film industry but will shift her focus to producing other projects. “My life has been dedicated to maintaining and building upon the extraordinary legacy that was handed to Michael and me by our father, producer Cubby Broccoli,” she said in a statement. “I have had the honor of working closely with four of the tremendously talented actors who have played 007 and thousands of wonderful artists within the industry. With the conclusion of ‘No Time to Die’ and Michael retiring from the films, I feel it is time to focus on my other projects.”

Craig has worked with Broccoli outside of the Bond franchise. She produced the 2022 Broadway revival of “Macbeth” that Craig starred in. Broccoli has produced other Broadway shows, including “Prima Facie” with Jodie Comer and the Tony Award-winning musical “The Band’s Visit.” This season, Broccoli is working on “Buena Vista Social Club.”

Craig’s last Bond film, “No Time To Die,” grossed $774 million at the worldwide box office in 2021. No plans or casting have been announced for a 26th film.
