Hunter Biden’s good friend and business partner Devon Archer spoke to the House Oversight Committee Monday during a four hour, closed-door interview. Archer described how Hunter used his father’s name and position as leverage when doing business overseas.
This story is being covered by news outlets on both the right and left. As you can see using our media landscape tool on SAN.com – headlines from left leaning outlets focus on Hunter Biden selling the illusion of access to his father, while right leaning outlets focused on the more than 20 phone calls between then Vice President Biden and Hunter’s business partners. More on that in just a moment, but if you want to explore how outlets on all sides of the political spectrum are covering this, or any story, check out the media miss page on SAN.com.
Now as per Archer’s testimony, there’s one fact that can’t be ignored: Joe Biden did not tell the truth when he said he never discussed business with his son.
The New York Times wrote:
Mr. Archer’s testimony underscored that Mr. Biden had made false or misleading statements regarding his family members’ finances. During the 2020 presidential debate, Mr. Biden claimed that no one in his family had received money from China, when, in fact, Hunter Biden and his business associates took in millions from a Chinese firm.
In 2019, Mr. Biden also repeatedly said he had “never discussed” and had “never spoken to” Hunter Biden about his business dealings.”
Outlets on the left are citing Democrats on the panel who said that while Hunter Biden was selling the “illusion” of access to his father, Joe Biden was never a party to his son’s business dealings. One of the Democrats in the room, Congressman Dan Goldman also described testimony regarding at least 20 phone calls between then Vice President Joe Biden and Hunter’s business partners.
Rep. Dan Goldman D-N.Y.: “The witness was unequivocal and stated very clearly that they never discussed any business on that phone conversations. There were niceties, and there was a hello and they talked about the weather or whatever it was, but there was never any business.”
Outlets on the right are focusing on a release from the Committee’s Republican Chairman James Comer who shared that Archer said then-Vice President Biden spoke with Hunter’s business partners not just on the phone but also met with them in person on multiple occasions. Archer said VP Biden had tea with a Chinese CEO and dinner with a Russian Oligarch.
One source told Fox: Hunter Biden and top executives of Burisma Holdings “called D.C.” in 2015 to ask the Obama administration to help fire the Ukrainian prosecutor investigating the firm.
Comer stated: “Devon Archer’s testimony today confirms Joe Biden lied to the American people when he said he had no knowledge about his son’s business dealings and was not involved. Joe Biden was ‘the brand’ that his son sold around the world to enrich the Biden family.”
Comer said the Oversight Committee will continue the investigation as they try to determine if President Biden is quote corrupt and compromised. Straight from DC, I’m Ray Bogan.
