Full story

On Aug. 31, 2022, the Justice Department has filed a response in court opposing the appointment of a special master, the U.S. Navy accused Iran of seizing an American sea drone, and a Michigan board will vote on abortion issues.

Justice Department opposes special master – The Justice Department says they don’t want a special master overseeing their investigation and raid on President Donald Trump’s Mar a Lago residence. They filed a motion opposing the appointment of one in response to Trump’s motion asking the court for a special master.

In the filing, the DOJ laid out its most detailed timeline yet of what led up to the FBI raid. They accused Trump of deliberately concealing records when the bureau tried to retrieve them back in June. Tomorrow, there is a scheduled hearing on Trump’s motion.

Iran attempts to seize U.S. sea drone – The U.S. Navy accused Iran’s Revolutionary Guard of seizing an American sea drone in the Persian Gulf. According to officials, Iran tried towing the drone away releasing it only when a Navy warship and helicopter approached.

Michigan board to vote on abortion initiative – A Michigan election board is set to decide whether a ballot initiative establishing abortion rights in the state will make the ballot in November. The proposed constitutional amendment aims to negate a 91-year-old state law that would ban abortion in all instances except to save the life of the mother. The board’s decision is not expected to be the last word on the matter. Both sides have already said they will challenge the decision at the state’s supreme court.
