Critics hit Elon Musk‘s Neuralink with claims of animal cruelty this week. According to a newly released report, 15 monkeys died or were euthanized in 2020 following the company’s experimentation.

Neuralink confirmed monkeys died and denied cruelty claims. The company has been trying to create an interface to allow people to control devices with their brains, and it received approval to put computer chips into the brains of 23 monkeys.

Musk had previously said he hoped human trials could start later in 2022 pending FDA approval.
