Posting on Truth Social and X, Trump called the incident “the greatest fraud in broadcast history,” sparking widespread debate and further straining his contentious relationship with the media.

The controversy began after a teaser for Harris’s Oct. 7 interview showed a sequence that differed slightly from the full broadcast. Trump accused CBS of editing Harris’s answers, claiming the network was deliberately enhancing her image.

In response, FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel firmly rejected Trump’s demands, stating that broadcast licenses cannot be revoked due to political disagreements. She reiterated the FCC’s commitment to free speech and media independence, calling the First Amendment “a cornerstone of our democracy.”

The Harris campaign, meanwhile, downplayed the accusations.

“We do not control CBS’s production decisions and refer questions to CBS,” the campaign said in a statement.

This is not the first time Trump has targeted a major network. He previously called for ABC’s license to be revoked after the September 2024 presidential debate. However, the FCC maintained that media freedom remains vital, regardless of political disagreements.

THERE IS GROWING CONTROVERSY BETWEEN FORMER PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP, VICE PRESIDENT KAMALA HARRIS AND THE CBS NETWORK. TRUMP IS CALLING FOR CBS TO LOSE ITS BROADCAST LICENSE, CLAIMING THE NETWORK EDITED AN INTERVIEW WITH HARRIS TO MAKE HER LOOK BETTER.

IT BEGAN ON OCTOBER 7TH, WHEN CBS AIRED AN INTERVIEW WITH HARRIS ON ‘60 MINUTES.’ A TEASER CLIP RELEASED ONLINE SHOWS A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT SEQUENCE FOR HARRIS’ RESPONSE COMPARED TO WHAT WAS AIRED IN THE FULL PROGRAM. TRUMP QUICKLY TOOK TO TRUTH SOCIAL, ACCUSING CBS OF ALTERING HARRIS’S ANSWERS TO MAKE HER LOOK MORE PRESIDENTIAL. HE CALLED IT “A FAKE NEWS SCAM”… SAYING…

“60 MINUTES IS A MAJOR PART OF THE NEWS ORGANIZATION OF CBS, WHICH HAS JUST CREATED THE GREATEST FRAUD IN BROADCAST HISTORY.”

HE LATER POSTED DEMANDS THAT CBS LOSE ITS LICENSE.

TRUMP’S REMARKS SPARKED IMMEDIATE BACKLASH FROM THE FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION. CHAIR JESSICA ROSENWORCEL DENOUNCED HIS DEMANDS, EMPHASIZING THAT THE FCC DOES NOT REVOKE BROADCAST LICENSES SIMPLY BECAUSE OF POLITICAL DISAGREEMENTS.

IN A STRONGLY WORDED STATEMENT, ROSENWORCEL REAFFIRMED THE FCC’S COMMITMENT TO FREE SPEECH AND MEDIA INDEPENDENCE. SHE CRITICIZED TRUMP’S THREATS, STATING…

“WHILE REPEATED ATTACKS AGAINST BROADCAST STATIONS BY THE FORMER PRESIDENT MAY NOW BE FAMILIAR, THESE THREATS AGAINST FREE SPEECH ARE SERIOUS AND SHOULD NOT BE IGNORED…AS I’VE SAID BEFORE, THE FIRST AMENDMENT IS A CORNERSTONE OF OUR DEMOCRACY.”

VICE PRESIDENT KAMALA HARRIS ALSO WEIGHED IN, DOWNPLAYING THE CONTROVERSY. WHEN CONTACTED FOR COMMENT ON THE ACCUSATIONS, THE HARRIS CAMPAIGN RESPONDED WITH…

“WE DO NOT CONTROL CBS’S PRODUCTION DECISIONS AND REFER QUESTIONS TO CBS.”

THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME TRUMP CALLED FOR THE REVOCATION OF A BROADCASTING LICENSE… EXPRESSING SIMILAR DEMANDS OF ABC THE DAY AFTER THE DEBATE IN SEPTEMBER.
