General Dynamics introduces new AbramsX battlefield tank

If the U.S. military wants to maintain dominance on the battlefield, it’s going to need new tanks. Earlier this month, General Dynamics introduced the AbramsX tank, and it is powerful.

Cameras mounted on the turret will give the crew a 360-degree view of the battlefield, both day and night. A remote operated chain-gun system lets the crew engage infantry, drones, and other lightly armored vehicles while operating within the tank’s hull.

The new 120mm main gun fires advanced, multi-purpose rounds. The rounds can breach walls or bunkers, defeat other tanks, and they have an air-burst mode that defends against anti-tank missiles like the javelin.

The AbramsX can control its own drone swarm and is also 50% more fuel efficient, which could prove helpful if it’s going to out-maneuver China’s Type-99A and Russia’s T-14 Armata.

The AbramsX is still just a technology demonstrator, meaning the U.S. government would still need to buy them. That could happen sooner than later, considering the rate at which China is stockpiling tanks.

China’s Type-99’s look strikingly similar to the AbramsX; chalk it up to all that Chinese spying. Type-99’s are rumored to reach speeds of nearly 50 miles per hour and have advanced targeting systems.

Russia’s T-14 Armata could turn the tide of the Ukraine War if it ever hits the battlefield. The Armata’s 125mm cannon is bigger than the AbramsX’s. The Armata can deploy an aerosol system that reflects heat and light, blocking enemy guidance systems.

U.S. allies are also producing next-gen tanks, and Germany may have the best one ever made: the KF51 Panther. It has a 1500 horsepower engine, and the 130mm main gun extends the tank’s kill range by 50%. It can also launch four quadcopters that each carry a 9-pound warhead, giving it the ability to engage targets beyond line-of-sight.

One thing all these tanks have in common is the integration of advanced technologies like artificial intelligence, which could mark an altogether new era in human warfare.

IF THE US MILITARY WANTS TO MAINTAIN DOMINANCE ON THE BATTLEFIELD, IT’S GOING TO NEED NEW TANKS.

EARLIER THIS MONTH, GENERAL DYNAMICS INTRODUCED THE ABRAMSX, AND IT IS POWERFUL.

CAMERAS MOUNTED ON THE TURRET WILL GIVE THE CREW A 360 DEGREE VIEW OF THE BATTLEFIELD, BOTH DAY AND NIGHT.

THEY CAN BREACH WALLS OR BUNKERS, DEFEAT OTHER TANKS, AND THEY HAVE AN AIR-BURST MODE THAT DEFENDS AGAINST ANTI-TANK MISSILES LIKE THE JAVELIN.

THE ABRAMSX CAN CONTROL ITS OWN DRONE SWARM AND IS ALSO 50 PERCENT MORE FUEL EFFICIENT, WHICH COULD PROVE HELPFUL IF IT’S GOING TO OUT-MANEUVER CHINA’S TYPE-99A AND RUSSIA’S T-14 ARMATA.

THE ABRAMSX IS STILL JUST A TECHNOLOGY DEMONSTRATOR, MEANING THE US GOVERNMENT WOULD STILL NEED TO BUY THEM.

WHICH COULD HAPPEN SOONER THAN LATER, CONSIDERING THE RATE AT WHICH CHINA IS STOCKPILING TANKS.

RUSSIA’S T-14 ARMATA COULD TURN THE TIDE OF THE UKRAINE WAR, IF IT EVER HITS THE BATTLEFIELD.

THE ARMATA’S 125MM CANNON IS BIGGER THAN THE ABRAMSX. THE ARMATA CAN DEPLOY AN AEROSOL SYSTEM THAT REFLECTS HEAT AND LIGHT, BLOCKING ENEMY GUIDANCE SYSTEMS.

US ALLIES ARE ALSO PRODUCING NEXT-GEN TANKS, AND GERMANY MAY HAVE THE BEST ONE EVER MADE: THE KF51 PANTHER.

IT HAS A 1500 HORSEPOWER ENGINE, AND THE 130MM MAIN GUN EXTENDS THE TANK’S KILL RANGE BY 50%.

OH, AND IT CAN LAUNCH FOUR QUADCOPTERS THAT EACH CARRY A 9-POUND WARHEAD.

ONE THING ALL OF THESE TANKS HAVE IN COMMON IS THE INTEGRATION OF ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES LIKE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE.

WHICH COULD MARK AN ALTOGETHER NEW ERA IN HUMAN WARFARE.
