Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams announced she will run for governor in the Peach State’s 2022 election. Abrams previously ran for governor in 2018, losing to Republican then-Secretary of State Brian Kemp.
“While my job may have changed, what I know to be true has not,” Abrams said in her campaign announcement video.

Abrams lost the Georgia gubernatorial election by just 1.4 points. After that election, Abrams worked in the background, focusing on voting rights with her non-profit Fair Fight.
“Let’s hear it for Stacey Abrams,” President Joe Biden said at a Senate runoff rally. “Nobody, nobody in America has done more for the right to vote than Stacey.”
The 2022 election could be a rematch of the 2018 election, with Abrams facing off against Kemp.
Former President Donald Trump is at odds with Kemp because of how Kemp responded to the 2020 election results in his state.
