Google says it will expand misinformation ‘prebunking’ program

Share

Joining other tech companies in combatting misinformation, Google announced it is expanding its “prebunking” program. Prebunking involves teaching people how to spot false claims online before they encounter them.

Google plans to release a series of short videos highlighting the techniques common to many misleading claims. These techniques include fear-mongering, scapegoating, false comparisons, exaggeration and missing context.

The Google prebunking program videos on misinformation will appear as advertisements on platforms like Facebook, YouTube or TikTok in Germany after promising results were reported in Eastern Europe. A similar campaign in India is also in the works.
