House Republicans unveiled their platform for the 2022 midterms and their priorities should they take back a majority in Congress. They’re calling it the “Commitment to America.”

Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., previewed the plan during a speech in Pittsburgh. The House Minority Leader painted it as solutions to what he called problems that Democrats created, such as inflation and surges in immigration.

“They control the House and Senate and the White House, they control the committees and the agencies. It is their plan, but they have no plan to fix all the problems they’ve created,” Rep. McCarthy said. “You know what? We’ve created a commitment to America”.

The plan includes fighting inflation and lowering the cost of living by curbing what they call wasteful government spending. They want to secure the border by increasing funding to border enforcement and eliminating catch and release. They also want to give parents more power over their children’s schooling, and allow only cisgender women to compete in women’s sports.

President Biden took issue with the proposal during a DNC event hosted at the National Education Association in D.C. The president attempted to draw a distinction between Democrats and what he refers to as “MAGA Republicans.”

The president addressed McCarthy’s speech directly.

“In the course of nearly an hour, here’s a few of the things we didn’t hear. We didn’t hear him mention the right to choose, we didn’t hear him mention medicare, we didn’t hear him mention social security,” President Biden said.

The White House responded by saying Republicans are against student loan relief, want to ban abortion nationally and cut and privatize social security.

“That’s a thin series of policy goals with little or no details that he says Republicans are going to pursue if they regain control of the congress,” Biden said.
