Republican Congressman Kevin McCarthy made progress in his quest to become the next House Speaker. But he’s still three votes short. McCarthy needed 217 votes to receive an overall majority, he received 214. The threshold is lowered from 218 because some members are absent, including Representative Elect Wesley Hunt who went home because his wife had a baby.
McCarthy started the day more optimistic. He told fellow Republicans on a conference call this morning that he had made progress but had not worked out a final deal. Straight from DC, I’m Ray Bogan.
