According to FlightAware, the Learjet’s tail number is XA-UCI, indicating that the aircraft is classified as commercial and registered in Mexico.

The jet’s owner, Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, is a critical care air ambulance service. A spokesman for the company told NBC News that a young girl aboard the flight was returning to Tijuana, Mexico, after receiving treatment for a life-threatening illness in the U.S.

Authorities also said multiple people on the ground suffered injuries.

Video footage shows multiple row homes, vehicles and nearby businesses on fire. Roosevelt Mall is located near the crash site. Satellite imagery of the area shows a dense residential neighborhood near the shopping center.

Eyewitnesses described hearing an explosion, feeling their homes shake and then seeing a massive fireball.

Philadelphia’s Office of Emergency Management posted to X Friday night that they had closed off multiple streets around the area and would update the public with more information.

The Philadelphia Fire Department said shortly after 8:15 p.m. that they had the fire under control.

It remains unclear how many people are injured or the exact number of casualties.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy says President Donald Trump and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro have been briefed and that local officials have been offered full support.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are handling the investigation.

The crash occurred just two days after a military Black Hawk helicopter and an American Airlines regional jet collided midair near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on Wednesday. Both aircraft landed in the Potomac River, resulting in the deaths of 67 people, with no survivors.

Federal Reserve adviser charged with ‘economic espionage’ for helping China

A former senior adviser for the Federal Reserve is facing charges of economic espionage and making false statements after an investigation by the FBI and the Federal Reserve Inspector General uncovered a multi-year conspiracy involving U.S. trade secrets and financial policies. John Harold Rogers, 63, allegedly used his position to funnel sensitive economic information to China’s intelligence agency.

US attorney shares case details

In a statement, U.S. Attorney Edward Martin confirmed Rogers was arrested on Friday, Jan. 31, as part of efforts to safeguard national security interests under President Donald Trump’s directive to protect against any threats, both foreign and domestic.

“Let this indictment serve as a warning to all who seek to betray or exploit the United States: law enforcement will find you and hold you accountable,” Martin said in the release.

Rogers’ role at the Federal Reserve

Rogers worked as a senior adviser at the Federal Reserve for more than a decade. It gave him direct access to confidential economic data. The indictment alleges he began passing this information to China’s intelligence agency in 2018. Rogers is accused of sharing details about U.S. tariffs, briefing books from governors and sensitive information about interest rate moves. He allegedly transmitted this data either by email or printed it before taking trips to China.

Two years ago, officials said Rogers earned $450,000 as a part-time professor at a Chinese university. Authorities claim Rogers used the position as a cover to meet with Chinese officials for his espionage activities.

Targeting the Federal Reserve

A 2022 report from the Homeland Security Committee revealed China has been attempting to gather intelligence from the Federal Reserve for years. However, efforts to stop these activities have been hindered by a lack of policy at the Federal Reserve. The report also claims China is using U.S. experts and talent programs to collect intelligence to replace the U.S. dollar as the world’s primary currency.

Rogers faces up to 20 years in prison for both charges and a maximum fine of $5 million.

A FORMER SENIOR FEDERAL RESERVE OFFICIAL IS ACCUSED OF FUNNELING U.S. TRADE SECRETS AND FINANCIAL POLICIES TO THE CHINESE COMMUNIST PARTY, USING HIS POSITION FOR SPYING AND INTELLIGENCE GATHERING

JOHN HAROLD ROGERS WAS INDICTED ON ECONOMIC ESPIONAGE AND MAKING FALSE STATEMENTS CHARGES AFTER AN FBI AND FEDERAL RESERVE INSPECTOR GENERAL INVESTIGATION UNCOVERED A MULTI-YEAR CONSPIRACY.

IN A PRESS RELEASE, U.S. ATTORNEY EDWARD MARTIN SAID HE WAS ARRESTED ON FRIDAY TO SAFEGUARD NATIONAL SECURITY, FOLLOWING PRESIDENT TRUMP’S DIRECTIVE TO PROTECT AGAINST FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC THREATS.

SAYING: “Let this indictment serve as a warning to all who seek to betray or exploit the United States: law enforcement will find you and hold you accountable.”

ROGERS SPENT OVER A DECADE AS A SENIOR ADVISER AT THE FEDERAL RESERVE, GAINING DIRECT ACCESS TO TOP-SECRET ECONOMIC INFO. ACCORDING TO THE INDICTMENT, HE STARTED SHARING THAT DATA WITH CHINA’S INTELLIGENCE AGENCY IN 2018.

THE 63-YEAR-OLD ALLEGEDLY PASSED ALONG DETAILS ABOUT TARIFFS, GOVERNORS’ BRIEFING BOOKS AND INFO FROM THE COMMITTEE RESPONSIBLE FOR INTEREST RATES, EITHER EMAILING IT OR PRINTING IT BEFORE HIS TRIPS TO CHINA.

OFFICIALS SAY ROGERS EARNED NEARLY HALF A MILLION DOLLARS TWO YEARS AGO AS A PROFESSOR AT A CHINESE UNIVERSITY, USING THE JOB AS COVER TO MEET WITH CHINESE OFFICIALS.

A 2022 REPORT FROM THE HOMELAND SECURITY COMMITTEE REVEALS CHINA HAS BEEN TARGETING THE FEDERAL RESERVE FOR YEARS, WITH LITTLE SUCCESS IN STOPPING THEM DUE TO A LACK OF POLICY.

THE REPORT CLAIMS CHINA IS USING U.S. EXPERTS AND TALENT PROGRAMS TO GATHER INTEL IN A BID TO OUST THE U.S. DOLLAR AS THE WORLD’S MAIN CURRENCY.

ROGERS FACES UP TO 20 YEARS IN PRISON FOR BOTH CHARGES AND A MAXIMUM FINE OF FIVE MILLION DOLLARS.

Crashed US Army Black Hawk did ‘not have any AI capability’

Listen
Share

The recent crash between a U.S. Army helicopter and an American Airlines commuter jet over the Potomac River was a tragedy. It’s one most likely caused by human error, not the result of the Army’s experimentation with artificial intelligence.

In the days since the crash, through written statements and press briefings, government and military officials have confirmed that the UH-60M Black Hawk flying that night was not equipped with any experimental AI systems.

The chief of staff at the Headquarters Department of the Army Aviation Directorate told DefenseScoop that any testing with AI agents piloting aircraft is always conducted far from populated areas, just in case an incident occurs.

The Army is working with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, or DARPA, and Sikorsky to install an autonomous system known as MATRIX into Black Hawks. However, the contract was just signed in October 2024, with work set to begin sometime in 2025.

Sikorsky, a subsidiary of Lockheed Martin, began flying helicopters with MATRIX and no pilots in 2022. However, that testing is taking place in locations such as the proving grounds in Yuma, Arizona. That’s almost 2,500 miles from Washington.

MATRIX is one of several AI agents DARPA is developing to reduce pilots’ cognitive loads and help them concentrate on the mission at hand.

It’s the kind of technology that may one day help prevent crashes like the one over the Potomac. But the technology isn’t there yet, and it certainly isn’t so widely deployed that a helicopter on a routine training mission would have it on board.

The investigation into the Potomac crash is still ongoing. Still, reports indicate the helicopter was flying higher than it should have. It was about half a mile off its approved route.

The New York Times reported that the tower at Reagan National Airport may have been short one air traffic controller. Instead of having one person direct planes and another direct helicopters, only one person handled both.

Since the investigation is still in its early stages, details may change. The National Transportation Safety Board said its initial report would take at least 30 days. However, it will likely be a year or more before the public gets a definitive answer about what happened that night.

THE CRASH BETWEEN THE U.S. ARMY HELICOPTER AND AN AMERICAN AIRLINES COMMUTER JET OVER THE POTOMAC WAS A TRAGEDY. ONE MOST LIKELY CAUSED BY HUMAN ERROR, THOUGH, AND NOT THE RESULT OF THE ARMY’S EXPERIMENTATION WITH ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE.

IN THE DAYS SINCE THE CRASH, THROUGH WRITTEN STATEMENTS AND PRESS BRIEFINGS, GOVERNMENT AND MILITARY OFFICIALS CONFIRMED THE UH-60M BLACKHAWK FLYING THAT NIGHT WAS NOT EQUIPPED WITH ANY SORT OF EXPERIMENTAL AI-SYSTEMS.

THE CHIEF OF STAFF AT THE HEADQUARTERS DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY AVIATION DIRECTORATE TOLD DEFENSCOOP ANY TESTING WITH AI-AGENTS PILOTING CRAFT IS ALWAYS DONE FAR AWAY FROM POPULATED AREAS. JUST IN CASE AN INCIDENT HAPPENS.

THE ARMY IS WORKING WITH DARPA, THE DEFENSE ADVANCED RESEARCH PROJECTS AGENCY, AND SIKORSKY TO INSTALL AN AUTONOMOUS SYSTEM INTO BLACKHAWKS KNOWN AS MATRIX. THE CONTRACT WAS JUST SIGNED IN OCTOBER THOUGH, WITH WORK SET TO START SOMETIME IN 2025.

SIKORSKY IS A SUBSIDIARY OF LOCKHEED MARTIN, AND STARTED FLYING HELICOPTERS WITH MATRIX AND NO PILOTS BACK IN 2022. BUT THAT TESTING IS BEING DONE IN PLACES LIKE THE PROVING GROUNDS IN YUMA, ARIZONA. ALMOST 2,500 MILES AWAY FROM D.C.

MATRIX IS ONE OF SEVERAL AI-AGENTS DARPA IS LOOKING TO DEVELOP WITH THE GOAL OF REDUCING THE COGNITIVE LOADS ON PILOTS, I.E. MAKE IT EASIER TO CONCENTRATE ON THE MISSION AT HAND.

IT’S THE SORT OF TECHNOLOGY THAT MAY ONE DAY HELP PREVENT CRASHES LIKE THE ONE OVER THE POTOMAC, BUT THE TECHNOLOGY ISN’T THERE YET AND CERTAINLY ISN’T SO WIDELY DEPLOYED THAT A HELICOPTER ON A ROUTINE TRAINING MISSION WOULD HAVE IT ON BOARD.

THE INVESTIGATION INTO THE POTOMAC CRASH IS STILL ON-GOING, BUT THERE ARE REPORTS THE HELICOPTER WAS FLYING HIGHER THAN IT SHOULD HAVE, AND HALF A MILE OFF ITS APPROVED ROUTE. THE NEW YORK TIMES SAYS NOT ONLY THAT, BUT THE TOWER AT REAGAN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT MAY HAVE BEEN SHORT ONE AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER. SO, INSTEAD OF HAVING ONE PERSON DIRECTING PLANES AND ANOTHER DIRECTING HELOS, THERE WAS ONLY ONE PERSON DIRECTING BOTH.

NOW, WE’RE STILL PRETTY EARLY INTO THE INVESTIGATION SO DETAILS ARE BOUND TO SHIFT A LITTLE. THE NATIONAL TRANSPORTATION SAFETY BOARD SAID ITS INITIAL REPORT WOULD TAKE AT LEAST 30 DAYS, BUT IT WILL LIKELY BE A YEAR OR MORE BEFORE THE PUBLIC GETS A DEFINITIVE ANSWER ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED THAT NIGHT.

GOP lawmakers introduce SHUSH Act to ease firearm suppressor regulations

Listen
Share

Two Republican lawmakers introduced legislation to remove certain regulations surrounding firearm suppressors. Rep. Michael Cloud, R-Texas, and Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, are the chief co-sponsors of the Silencers Help Us Save Hearing (SHUSH) Act.

A firearm suppressor, or “silencer,” is a device attached to the muzzle of a firearm to reduce the noise, muzzle flash and recoil generated when the gun is fired. However, a suppressor doesn’t completely mute the sound of a gun firing. Rather, it lowers it by an average of 20 to 35 decibels –– a reduction similar to wearing ear protection.

The congressmen say that under current law, acquiring a silencer is a lengthy process through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). Applicants must fill out and submit several documents and provide certification from a local law enforcement officer. They also need to submit two copies of fingerprints, provide two passport photos and pay $200 in federal taxes.

According to Cloud and Lee, most law-abiding citizens wait nine to 12 months for approval, making it a burden.

The SHUSH Act would remove suppressors from the National Firearms Act (NFA) and Gun Control Act (GCA). It would reclassify them as a standard firearm accessory.

The proposed legislation would also prohibit state taxes and registration requirements on silencers and end the $200 federal tax. It would also streamline the acquisition process and permit active and retired law enforcement officers to carry concealed suppressors.

“Suppressors are a vital tool for responsible gun owners that protect hearing, enhance safety, and reduce firearm noise — but thanks to Hollywood and federal overreach, they’ve been unfairly vilified,” Cloud said in a statement. “Law-abiding Americans shouldn’t have to endure months of red tape and pay an additional tax just to access a safety accessory. The SHUSH Act puts an end to this unnecessary bureaucratic red tape, eliminates the federal tax, and prevents state overreach by treating suppressors like any other firearm accessory.”

Opponents of firearm suppressors say they can be highly dangerous. They also say suppressors pose significant public safety risks if they get into the wrong hands.

Everytown for Gun Safety is a nonprofit organization that advocates for gun control. The organization says a silencer makes it harder for bystanders or law enforcement to identify and react quickly to gunshots. They say being able to hear gunshots can be a matter of life or death.

The SHUSH Act has been introduced to Congress several times, including in 2019, 2021, and again in July 2024.

TWO REPUBLICAN CONGRESSMEN INTRODUCED LEGISLATION AIMING TO REMOVE CERTAIN REGULATIONS SURROUNDING FIREARM SUPPRESSORS.

A FIREARM SUPPRESSOR, OR “SILENCER,” IS A DEVICE ATTACHED TO THE MUZZLE OF A FIREARM TO REDUCE THE NOISE, MUZZLE FLASH, AND RECOIL GENERATED WHEN THE GUN IS FIRED. A SUPPRESSOR DOESN’T COMPLETELY MUTE THE SOUND OF A GUN FIRING, RATHER LOWERS IT BY AN AVERAGE OF 20-35 DECIBELS, A REDUCTION SIMILAR TO WEARING EAR PROTECTION.

TEXAS REPRESENTATIVE MICHAEL CLOUD AND UTAH SENATOR MIKE LEE ARE THE CHIEF CO-SPONSORS OF THE “SILENCERS HELP US SAVE HEARING” OR (SHUSH) ACT.

THE TWO CONGRESSMEN SAY UNDER CURRENT LAW ACQUIRING A SILENCER IS A LENGTHY PROCESS THROUGH THE BUREAU OF ALCOHOL, TOBACCO, FIREARMS, AND EXPLOSIVES (ATF). APPLICANTS MUST FILL OUT AND SUBMIT SEVERAL DOCUMENTS… PROVIDE CERTIFICATION FROM A LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER, ALONG WITH TWO COPIES OF FINGERPRINTS… TWO PASSPORT PHOTOS… AND PAY $200 IN FEDERAL TAXES.

CLOUD AND LEE SAY MOST LAW-ABIDING CITIZENS WAIT 9-12 MONTHS TO BE APPROVED AND THE PROCESS CAN BE A BURDEN.

THE SHUSH ACT WOULD REMOVE SUPPRESSORS FROM THE NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT (NFA) AND GUN CONTROL ACT (GCA) AND RE-CLASSIFY THEM AS A STANDARD FIREARM ACCESSORY.

THE PROPOSED LEGISLATION WOULD ALSO PROHIBIT STATE TAXES AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS ON SILENCERS, END THE $200 FEDERAL TAX, STREAMLINE THE ACQUISITION PROCESS AND PERMIT ACTIVE AND RETIRED LAW ENFORCEMENT TO CARRY CONCEALED SUPPRESSORS.

“SUPPRESSORS ARE A VITAL TOOL FOR RESPONSIBLE GUN OWNERS THAT PROTECT HEARING, ENHANCE SAFETY, AND REDUCE FIREARM NOISE—BUT THANKS TO HOLLYWOOD AND FEDERAL OVERREACH, THEY’VE BEEN UNFAIRLY VILIFIED. LAW-ABIDING AMERICANS SHOULDN’T HAVE TO ENDURE MONTHS OF RED TAPE AND PAY AN ADDITIONAL TAX JUST TO ACCESS A SAFETY ACCESSORY. THE SHUSH ACT PUTS AN END TO THIS UNNECESSARY BUREAUCRATIC RED TAPE, ELIMINATES THE FEDERAL TAX, AND PREVENTS STATE OVERREACH BY TREATING SUPPRESSORS LIKE ANY OTHER FIREARM ACCESSORY,” CONGRESSMAN CLOUD SAID IN A STATEMENT.

OPPONENTS OF FIREARM SUPPRESSORS SAY THEY CAN BE HIGHLY DANGEROUS AND POSE SIGNIFICANT PUBLIC SAFETY RISKS IF THEY GET INTO THE WRONG HANDS.

ACCORDING TO EVERY TOWN FOR GUN SAFETY A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION FOCUSED ON ADVOCATING FOR GUN CONTROL A SILENCER MAKES IT HARDER FOR BYSTANDERS OR LAW ENFORCEMENT TO IDENTIFY AND REACT QUICKLY TO GUNSHOTS. THEY SAY BEING ABLE TO HEAR THE GUNSHOTS CAN BE A MATTER OF LIFE OR DEATH.

THE SILENCERS HELP US SAVE HEARING (SHUSH) ACT HAS BEEN INTRODUCED TO CONGRESS SEVERAL TIMES IN 2019, 2021 AND AGAIN IN JULY 2024.

The Canucks get 25-year-old Czech center Filip Chytil in return, along with rookie defenseman Victor Mancini and a first-round pick in this summer’s NHL entry draft.

The 31-year-old Miller was in his sixth season in Vancouver and two years into a seven-year, $56 million contract. He had to waive his no-trade clause for Friday’s deal to happen.

He did that because it was clear things were not working out in Vancouver, as rumors of a rift between Miller and the team’s other top center, Elias Pettersson, would not subside. General Manager Patrik Allvin addressed the month-long drama just 10 days ago.

“It’s very unfortunate –– I feel bad for a lot of players when you’re reading some rumors out there,” said Allvin. “I’m proud of the guys that they’re capable of blocking a lot of noises out and just go out and play. We want to create an environment where they feel safe and trusted.”

That meant moving Miller, who scored a career-high 37 goals and had 103 points last season, as the Canucks won the Pacific Division.

It’s been a tough go for him in 2024-25. He took a 10-game leave of absence for personal reasons and has just nine goals and 35 points. Miller will make his Rangers debut –– for the second time –– Saturday afternoon, Feb. 1, in Boston against the Bruins.

Second judge rules to block Trump spending freeze from taking effect

A federal judge in Rhode Island issued the second court ruling this week blocking the Trump administration’s push for a freeze on distributing federal government spending. The judge sided with 22 states who brought the lawsuit.

In issuing the ruling, Judge John McConnell Jr. wrote, “The Court must act in these early stages of the litigation under the ‘worst case scenario’ because the breadth and ambiguity of the Executive’s action makes it impossible to do otherwise.”

A different federal judge in Washington, D.C., issued a weeklong administrative stay. It blocked the freeze just before it would have gone into effect Monday, Jan. 27. However, the Rhode Island ruling is a temporary restraining order. It allows for a longer block until courts can rule on it further.

President Trump issued a wide-ranging freeze on government spending in line with an executive order to review government spending for potential funding for programs promoting diversity, equity and inclusion, or DEI. Trump said the practices violate civil rights law.

A memo from the White House Office of Management and Budget, or OMB, directed a freeze on all federal grants and financial assistance programs.

While the White House said it rescinded the memo after the first court ruling, it sparked panic from states and groups receiving federal grants.

States said they could not access the federal portal for Medicaid. They were also unsure if they could pay out checks to recipients.

Nonprofits that receive government aid are worried about its effects. Meals on Wheels America warned that the freeze could prevent it from distributing funding to its roughly 5,000 providers.

The White House clarified that it did not intend to halt funding to programs providing direct assistance. Those include Medicare, Social Security, food stamps and student loans.

They added that, although they have rescinded the memo, the plans for a spending freeze are still in effect.

It’s part of the response to a memo President Donald Trump signed Wednesday, Jan. 29, restricting government agencies from providing outward-facing media like websites and social media accounts that “promote gender ideology.”

The president has signed various memos and executive orders targeting diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility, often shortened to DEI or DEIA. Trump said the policies violate civil rights law.

In practice, it has restricted what government agencies, including public health agencies, can say or share.

Several documents related to LGBTQ+ people and non-white Americans came down. They include one from the Department of Health and Human Services that laid out LGBTQ+ rights in health care.

Trump’s memo focused on gender and diversity, but as agencies work to comply, seemingly unrelated information has also disappeared from public view.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has removed interactive websites tracking levels of HIV, hepatitis and sexually transmitted diseases, as well as one where people could look up their community’s risk level in case of a natural disaster.

Also coming down: the CDC monitoring program for health-related behaviors in high school-aged children. It has tracked their nutrition, physical activity levels, sexual behavior and tobacco and drug use for 35 years.

The survey’s most recent edition, however, had asked students if they identified as transgender. Three percent said they did, while another 2% were not sure.

There is no immediate timeline for returning the websites and information. However, the memo asks agencies to outline their plans to implement and fully comply with its guidance by noon Eastern time next Friday, Feb. 7.

Many documents are available through the nonprofit Internet Archive if users copy a website’s dead link and paste it into the search box at web.archive.org.

One other piece of information from government employees disappeared Friday. In line with an executive order signed on President Trump’s first day in office, all agency employees, including the CDC and Department of Transportation, had to remove their preferred pronouns from email signatures if they previously chose to include them.

Advertisers generally want to ensure their ads are placed in environments that align with their values and do not appear next to harmful or offensive content.

However, the attitudes of prominent tech leaders toward Musk and his social media company have shifted in recent months.

Musk was a vocal proponent of President Donald Trump during the campaign. He endorsed Trump after the assassination attempt of Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July 2024.

Trump also appointed Musk to lead the new Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE. The department aims to shrink the government workforce and cut trillions of dollars in federal spending.

Given Musk’s new alliance with Trump, business and world leaders have worked to strengthen relations with him, considering his prominent role in Washington.

The tech mogul attended events at Trump’s inauguration. He met with other billionaire tech leaders, including Amazon’s Jeff Bezos and Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg.

Apple is also considering testing ads on X, according to the Journal.

Israel alleges Iran is smuggling suitcases of cash into Lebanon to fund Hezbollah

Israel has filed complaints alleging Iran is smuggling suitcases containing tens of millions of U.S. dollars into Lebanon. The money, Israel says, is being used to fund the militant group Hezbollah, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The complaints come as a ceasefire holds between Israel and Hezbollah. However, one condition of the agreement is that Lebanon’s government secure its ports of entry to prevent money and other supplies from reaching Hezbollah.

Israel and Hezbollah battled for months last year. The two sides traded rocket fire while Israeli troops entered southern Lebanon, where Hezbollah is based.

The two sides reached a ceasefire in November, following more than six weeks of fighting on the ground.

Although Israel had to withdraw from southern Lebanon 60 days after the ceasefire, that deadline passed last Sunday, Jan. 26, with Israeli troops not withdrawing.

The White House said, however, that the ceasefire will continue until at least Feb. 18.

But Iran providing Hezbollah with cash fits into Iran’s common patterns, as the country faces a wide array of sanctions from the U.S. and European countries.

In strikes last fall, Israel targeted sites where Hezbollah held money and gold, including branches of a bank facing U.S. sanctions.

Iran has committed to funding Hezbollah even as sanctions have drained its financial resources. The group also plays a major role in fighting Israel on Iran’s behalf.

The Wall Street Journal reported Iran had been funneling the money to Hezbollah through Syria. Still, it noted that the overthrow of Syrian President Bashar Assad last month could make it harder for Iranian money to reach the group.

Meanwhile, cash suitcases and briefcases played a role in facilitating the 2016 Iran nuclear deal. The Obama administration allowed Iran to receive an airplane delivery of $400 million in cash, predominantly held in foreign banks, as part of the terms of the deal the U.S. and Iran negotiated alongside France, Germany, the U.K., Russia, China and the European Union.

President Trump pulled the U.S. out of the deal in 2018, and despite making promises on the campaign trail to reenter it, President Joe Biden never did.

Authorities also said multiple people on the ground suffered injuries.

In video footage, multiple row homes, vehicles and nearby businesses can be seen on fire, with Roosevelt Mall located near the crash site.

“It’s a densely residential neighborhood and packed with rows of rowhomes,” CBS News reported.

Eyewitnesses described hearing an explosion, feeling their homes shake, and then seeing a massive fireball.

It remains unclear how many people are injured or the exact number of casualties.

The crash occurred just two days after a military Black Hawk helicopter and an American Airlines regional jet collided midair near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. Both aircraft landed in the Potomac River, resulting in the deaths of 67 people, with no survivors.

This is a developing story.
