Shannon Longworth: A growing number of Americans approve of threats or even violence against political figures –
New polling from the Southern Poverty Law Center found nearly half of men under 50 from both sides of the political spectrum approve of threatening a politician who is harming the country.
When the group was asked about assassinating a politician seen the same way, the poll found a shocking 44 percent of Democrats and 34 percent of Republicans approved.
The organization’s polling also found the majority of Republicans find “extremists in the Democratic party” as the biggest threat to the nation, while
Democrats ranked Vladimir Putin as the biggest threat. He was followed by Donald Trump, and overall Republican extremists.
As the U.S. becomes increasingly polarized more than half of Republicans and nearly 40 percent of Democrats feel a civil war could be on the horizon.
