Quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, prepare for Super Bowl rematch

  • Quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts are preparing for their Super Bowl rematch. Both have been key to their team’s success this season.
  • Patrick Mahomes owns a 17-3 record, leading the Chiefs in the postseason.
  • Jalen Hurts has led the Eagles to wins in 15 of their last 16 games this season.

The real preparations are about to begin for the 2025 Super Bowl showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles. Both teams will attend a full practice Wednesday, Feb. 5, in New Orleans.

At the center of the success of each team these last few years are their star quarterbacks. In their matchup during the 2023 Super Bowl, Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes threw for 182 yards and three touchdowns. Mahomes earned MVP honors after leading the final drive to the game-winning field goal. The 38-35 win in that Super Bowl is a part of Mahomes’ 17-3 record in the postseason. Much has been made about the Chiefs’ new role as the NFL’s villain, but Mahomes takes it in stride.

“It kinda brings you closer together when people are rooting against you. You become a tighter brotherhood in that locker room,” Mahomes said. “You know that you are doing it the right way, and it brings us together –– bring Chiefs Kingdom with us and go out there and try to win the game against everybody.”

Jalen Hurts doesn’t get nearly as much credit for his team’s success, but he has led the Eagles to wins in 15 of their last 16 games this season. In that same 2023 Super Bowl against Kansas City, he threw for 304 yards, one touchdown, and ran for three more scores. The Eagles fell just short, but Hurts says the message isn’t about payback this time.

“I think the main message is to go out there and focus, go out there and fight to finish. There’s been a lot of work put in to get to these opportunities and we just want to take advantage of it,” Hurts said.

Hurts admitted on Monday, Feb. 3, that the loss motivated him. “I’ve learned so much. It’s the same as any other game and, you know, I think the moments are the moments. But ultimately, you know, every game has its lessons –– good, bad or indifferent.”

Hurts continued, “So, just being able to become wiser, grow and mature and take all these lessons in for the next season and the next games. It’s had a great driving force. It lit a flame, lit a fire in me, and to have this opportunity again is exactly what you work for.”

Simply put, both quarterbacks are in the ultimate game because no one has been able to stop them so far this season. However, one of the streaks must end this Sunday, Feb. 9.

Now that “Super Bowl Opening Night” has passed and the teams are settled in New Orleans the real preparations begin for the showdown between the Chiefs and Eagles on Super Bowl Sunday. Both teams will go through a full practice Wednesday.

At the center of the game plans are the two quarterbacks. In their matchup during Super Bowl 57 two years ago, Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes threw for 182 yards and three touchdowns. Add in the final drive that led to the game winning field goal and he earned MVP honors. All part of his 17-3 record in the post season. Much has been made about the Chiefs new role as the NFL’s villain, but Mahomes is taking it in stride.

“It kinda brings you closer together when people are rooting against you. You become a tighter brotherhood in that locker room. You know that you are doing it the right way, and it brings us together, bring Chiefs Kingdom with us and go out there and try to win the game against everybody.”

On the other side Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts does not get as much credit for the team’s success, but they have won 15 of their last 16 games this season. In that previous Super Bowl against the Chiefs, he threw for 304 yards and a touchdown and ran for 3 more scores. The Eagles fell just short but Hurts says the message isn’t about payback this time around.

“I think the main message is to go out there and focus, go out there and fight to finish. There’s been a lot of work put in to get to these opportunities and we just want to take advantage of it”

The reason both those quarterbacks are in the ultimate game Sunday is that no one has been able to stop them this season. One of the streaks will obviously end Sunday, the question is which defense is up to the task?
