Railroad strike avoided, Xi and Putin meet, migrants sent to Martha’s Vineyard

Full story

On Sept. 15, 2022, a labor agreement for union railroad workers has been reached ahead of a scheduled strike, China and Russia will hold a private meeting to discuss the war in Ukraine, and migrants are flown to Martha’s Vineyard in another Republican-led effort to share the burden of the border crisis.

Railroad labor agreement reached – In an effort to avoid a major labor strike with a potentially devastating economic impact, President Joe Biden announced early Thursday that a tentative freight railroad labor agreement has been reached. The announcement comes just one day before the labor strike was set to begin. Railroads and union representatives negotiated overnight at the labor department for 20 hours on Wednesday to hammer out a deal. Estimates said that the strike would cost the U.S. $2 billion dollars a day.

China and Russia leaders hold private meeting – Chinese Leader Xi JinPing and Russian President Vladimir Putin met in Uzbekistan today. The two hosted a summit of the eight-nation Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Xi and Putin were set to meet one-on-one to discuss Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Migrants arrive in Martha’s Vineyard – Two planes filled with immigrants arrived on Martha’s Vineyard Wednesday. A spokesperson for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, R, gave him credit for the plane rides while a Massachusetts state representative said the immigrants arrived from Texas. Both Texas and Florida governors have allocated state funds to transport immigrants to Democrat-led sanctuary cities. The plane rides follow buses full of migrants sent to New York, Chicago and Washington, D.C.
