LVIV, Ukraine — Over 200,000 civilians have arrived in Lviv after being displaced by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Three weeks into the conflict, Russia has targeted areas near Ukraine’s western border with Poland.
Despite the Russian onslaught, Ukrainian Railways continues to operate across the vast majority of its expansive network. Many refugees are traveling on the country’s trains to get closer to the Polish border for security.
However, the journey to safety has not been a smooth one for many refugees. Air raid alarms have sounded almost hourly within Lviv. Travelers have been forced to pause and retreat underground for cover from potential bombs.
