As the country mourns the loss of 13 service men following the bombings near the Kabul, Afghanistan airport, some are looking at who to blame.
Addressing the nation, President Joe Biden warned, “To those who carried out this attack: We will not forgive. We will not forget. We will hunt you down and make you pay.”
Former President Donald Trump insinuated the blame should fall on Biden, saying, “This tragedy should never have taken place. It should never have happened, and it would not have happened if I were your president.”
Some in Congress reacted quickly to the news. Congressman Byron Donalds (R-TX) tweeted, “Biden has abdicated his responsibility and duties entrusted to him as POTUS, and he must resign immediately.”
Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) first called for Biden to resign. She now says if that doesn’t happen, he should be impeached.
Some congressional Democrats, like veteran Elaine Luria from Virginia, have been critical. She tweeted, “The August 31 withdrawal deadline is problematic.”
Congressman Jake Auchincloss served in Afghanistan and has supported Biden throughout the withdrawal. He tweeted, “POTUS made the right decision. There’s no glory in it, but there is integrity.”
Others, like former President Barack Obama reacted to the loss, tweeting, “Our hearts go out to the families who lost a loved one, and to everyone continuing the mission in Kabul.”
