Russia launches missile attack on Ukraine, largest seen in weeks

Share

Russia launched its largest missile attack seen in weeks against Ukraine in the early hours of Thursday morning. The attack left at least six Ukrainian civilians dead.

More than 80 missiles were fired on multiple Ukrainian towns and cities, including six hypersonic missiles that Ukraine’s air force doesn’t have the ability to intercept and shoot down.

Europe’s biggest nuclear power plant was taken off the grid, and energy infrastructure in the country was hit. Nearly half of Ukraine’s capital city Kyiv lost electricity and is without heating, according to the city’s mayor. Air sirens went off for seven hours throughout the night.

Russia’s defense minister said the missile attack was a “massive retaliation strike” against Ukraine. It marked the longest air attack of Russia’s five-month air campaign in Ukraine.
