A Supreme Court order may be the final nail in the coffin for a Pennsylvania Senate candidate who is trying to overtake celebrity doctor Mehmet Oz in the Republican primary race.
David McCormick and Dr. Oz are separated by fewer than 1,000 votes. There are some uncounted mail in ballots that could be a factor in the final tally, but it’s unclear when they’ll be counted. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito put a stay on counting ballots in a separate Pennsylvania race where contested ballots were received on time, but were not dated by the voter.
The order from Alito put a halt to a federal circuit court of appeals ruling which stated the lack of a date does not make the voter ineligible to vote.
McCormick wants the ballots in question to be counted. The vote total is well within the half percent threshold for an automatic recount.
Oz is calling himself the presumptive nominee and his campaign manager stated they are: “highly confident that they received the most votes and the recount will demonstrate that.” The final result will be announced June 8. Straight from DC I’m Ray Bogan.
