NCAA held not liable for CTE death

The NCAA is not to blame for brain damage to a football player that ultimately led to his death. Mathew Gee’s widow took the NCAA to court, accusing them of not protecting their players from head injuries, after Gee suffered thousands of hard hits to the head as a linebacker.

It could be a landmark ruling later used in other lawsuits regarding a sports organization’s liability in a player’s cognitive effects after playing sports.

The NCAA has had hundreds of similar lawsuits filed against them over the years. However, this was the first to make it to a jury.
