Welcome back, top friends lists: Spacehey is the new Myspace

Full story

A new social website has resurrected the look and feel of MySpace from the early 2000s. With customizable profiles, top friends, and no intrusive targeted ads, SpaceHey is taking users on a nostalgic trip through the early years of online media.

“There is no suggested content begging for your attention,” according to the about page on SpaceHey, which was launched in 2020 by German coder Anton Röhm. On November 11, SpaceHey surpassed 200,000 users.

The original MySpace was once one of the world’s most popular websites. The site experienced a rapid decline in the early 2010s due to competition from Facebook, and it went through a number of acquisitions.

The popularity of the retro social network site comes shortly after Mark Zuckerberg’s rebranding of Facebook as ‘Meta’ to create a separate umbrella under which his social media empire, which includes Instagram and WhatsApp, can exist.
